The relationship between technology and humans is becoming increasingly unclear as we rely more and more on their presence. Explore the positive and negative aspects of these relationships; Natural dependencies, failures, rejections, reservations and concerns as well as enjoyment, fond feelings and even passion. Consider what technology can give us as well as take away.

Design something to extend, narrow, or mediate the relationship humans have with technology.

Generation Y and our relationship with technology:
Communication- Email, SMS, Instant Messenger, Video Chat

How do we manage and retain knowledge through such mediums?
Isn’t it impersonal?

“Technology is the new social lubricant”
-makes it easier
-instant gratification
-always connected
-used to nourish relationships

Generation Y- Impatience
-working for our goals?
-final outcomes or rewards
-literacy
-individualism
-immediacy
-social interactivity

Does technology enable humans to have animal like senses?
Are we trying to separate more from man/beast
or are we only becoming more beast like
extreme senses or lack of compassion?

After the brainstorming I started to think about my personal attachments and dependencies with technology which one particular instance stood out in my mind. This being when I was in the hospital last year with appendicitis thousands of miles away from my family and the only thing I really wanted to be able to do was to have some sort of physical contact with my mom. This brought me to holding hands. What does holding hands offer? Connection, affection, protection, comfort and endearment. It remains a sign of intimacy between friends, lovers, couples and family. It keeps two people together as they navigate the world around them. I kind of wanted to show and simulate the extremities between human to human contact and human to technology contact.

This then brought me to social interaction through technology and generation-Y in particular.
