Go Scan Yourself
The View Points live project consisted of creating an exhibition for the m2 gallery located at 2c Kings Grove, Peckham. The metre square gallery is situated at the front of a converted milk depot which houses Quay 2c’s architecture office and Julia Manheim’s studio. The gallery consists of a one metre square window, half a metre deep, facing onto the street. It has been running for five years with a continuous programme of about six exhibitions a year.
Working in a small group, Christopher Waggott, Sam Tripp, Emily Suber and myself, Brittany Graham, wanted to create an interactive exhibtion that would encourage viewers to participate and become more involved in the existing gallery space.
Our proposal was the Go Scan Yourself exhibition. The m2 gallery window space would be converted into a full size scanner, the galllery window itself acting as the scanner bed. This encourages passer bys to scan themselves or anything of their choice and become integrated as a continuous part of the exhibit. The scanned images are saved and uploaded to the internet, via www.goscanyourself.co.uk where participants can see archives of previous weeks scans. The scanning would be open to the public for five weeks during the summer. After the exhibition period, the collective images gathered throughout will then be turned into a poster which is also available to the public and past participants.
